Saint Mauro

Erected in the 14th century, the Church of Saint Mauro was renovated in the 16th century, acquiring its current layout.

The main northwest facade features a central round-arched portal in brick, flanked by two equally arched niches on either side and topped by a large oculus with a brick frame. On either side of the facade, the volumes of the lateral chapels emerge in the background, each marked by a window. The northeast side facade, plastered, shows the protruding volume of the lateral chapel to the left, slightly beyond the center of the facade, followed by a window corresponding to the presbytery. The southeast facade is occupied by the volume of another building. The southwest side facade, symmetrical in volume to the opposite side, is characterized by a secondary entrance to the left of the lateral chapel, topped by a window and a small opening to the right corresponding to the presbytery. To the right, near the junction with the adjoining building on the rear wall, a bell tower with four round arches rises above the roofline, topped with a pavilion roof covered in tiles.

Inside, there is a single rectangular nave, plastered, with an exposed traditional wooden roof. Near the presbytery, two large round arches on either side open into the two small lateral chapels. The right side is also characterized by a central secondary entrance topped by a window, which, along with those of the two chapels and the oculus on the counter-facade, contributes to the natural illumination of the nave. Raised one step above the nave, separated by a stone balustrade, and introduced by a triumphal round arch, the presbytery unfolds in an almost square space covered by a cross vault and naturally lit by two side openings. In the center of the presbytery, on another raised platform, stands the high altar, which visually anticipates the splendid fresco decorating the back wall behind it. Additional fresco fragments can be found on part of the right side of the presbytery. On the back wall, a door to the left leads to the sacristy.

The structural system consists of load-bearing perimeter masonry made of irregular stone blocks with brick inserts. The two-pitched roof, with a brick slab externally covered in tiles, is supported by a wooden framework of trusses, beams, and purlins.
